Coming Out
Nov. 10, 1009
Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields
both salt water and fresh (Jam. 3:12)
George Smitherman, former Deputy Premier of Ontario and Minister of Energy &
Infrastructure, confirmed Monday that he would be stepping away from one of the top
political jobs in the province. His reason? He hopes Toronto voters will elect him to be
their next mayor.
The question that begs to be asked is why would he make this decision when he stands
second in line to the most powerful position in the Ontario government? Instead he
chooses to step down and run for the job of local mayor, an office that happens to
receive a large amount of its budget from the same office he is vacating.
By the way, did I fail to mention that Mr. Smitherman openly professes to be gay and that
he and his husband are trying to adopt a child? (Taken from CTV News, Nov. 9, 2009)
Please dear friends, before you turn me off as a gay-bashing, homophobic who has
missed God’s spirit of love, let me remind you that God has called the Church to be light
in the world and salt in a place where there is no flavour (Matt. 5:13).
I would much rather talk to you about your relationship with Christ and talk about the
blessings we have in Him, but I have to be true to what God is saying to me in these
days. I truly believe He has been nudging me into areas that are not popular, but
necessary if we are going to see a revival of your ministry and walk in the earth.
When men come out of their closets to proclaim their lifestyle instead of cleaning up their
lives, then I think its about time the Church decides to come out her closet and be what
God has called her to be. The word to you is come out from among them and be set apart
for what God intended you to be.
In case you think you are not in a closet, let me give you a picture of what a spiritual
closet looks like:
There are only shadows in there, but no substance.
Clothes (truths) that you have access to, but never wear.
Divine light that is controlled by others.
A limited environment to express the glory of God in your life.
An artificial ceiling over your head, telling you how far you can go in God.
Just take a good look at your life right now and if any of these things apply to your life
with the Lord, then I beg of you: walk out of your personal closet and begin to live the life
God intended you to live.
Dare to believe God for a greater reality of Him in your world.
Dare to trust Him for the truths He has spoken in the Word to your life.
Dare to resist the control of others over your life.
Dare to breakthrough artificial ceilings and live in the Spirit of the Lord God Almighty
My prayer for you is that you may come out of your closet and find by the power of the
Lord Jesus Christ that He is there waiting for you to live His life through you.
